A large share of homes here are older: 42% of the roughly 33,261 homes in Belleview and Ocala were built before 1980. Where those homes are on septic, the systems may be decades old too, so a pump-out with a full inspection can be a sensible first step.
Ocala has the largest share of older homes (43% built before 1980), so where homes there are on septic, older systems are more likely.
What tends to raise quotes here: Larger tanks, lids buried deep enough to need digging, and emergency or after-hours calls all add to the price of a pump-out. See typical prices in the Florida septic cost guide.

Local snapshot
Belleview: Belleview is one of the cities FDEP names inside the Silver Springs and Rainbow Springs basin management action plan area, and the adopted plan (effective April 27, 2026) assigns the city a nitrogen reduction of 7,674 pounds a year by 2038. Inside the plan area, any new septic system where sewer is unavailable must be an enhanced design that removes at least 65% of nitrogen, on any lot size. Sources on the Belleview page.
Ocala: Ocala lies in the Silver Springs and Rainbow Springs basin management action plan area, which FDEP's adopted plan (effective April 27, 2026) puts at about 1,668 square miles, and the city spans both springsheds. The plan finds septic systems supply 32% of the nitrogen reaching groundwater there and counts about 28,188 known and likely septic systems in the Silver Springs priority focus area alone. Florida law requires a permit for septic repairs, modifications and new systems. Florida's septic rule does not count routine pumping as a repair (Rule 62-6.002), so it does not need a repair permit. Local rules can differ, so ask your county permit office. Septic permits for homes in these cities come from:
