Diagnosing, repairing and replacing drain fields (leach fields), including raised mound systems.
Homes around Ocala and across Marion County sit on sandy soil over limestone in springs country. Drain Field Repair here means diagnosing why the drain field failed and repairing or replacing it, sometimes as a raised mound system. This page lists 12 septic companies that serve Ocala (population 63,591).
With a median build year of 1984, many Ocala drain fields have been in service a long time. When one fails, the cause (solids from an unpumped tank, roots, compaction or high water) decides whether it can be repaired.

Ocala lies in the Silver Springs and Rainbow Springs springsheds, where the limestone of the Upper Floridan aquifer sits close to the land surface around and west of Silver Springs. A drain field needs unsaturated soil to work, so after heavy rain or flooding in Ocala, tell the company, because a flooded field can act like a failed one. If sewage is backing up into the house or pooling in the yard, call a septic company.

A drain field repair or replacement needs a septic permit in Florida. For homes in Ocala, septic permits come from Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Onsite Sewage Program (Marion County) (850-245-8362). Since July 1, 2025, Florida DEP issues septic permits in Marion County directly; the county health department no longer does. Applications go through DEP's online portal at ostds.floridadep.gov.
